3K Project- Kuboresha, Kudumisha na Kulinda

Program Overview

The 3K Project – whose name means Improve, Sustain and Protect in Swahili – is a three year initiative designed to improve the wellbeing of school going children across Narok South, Narok North and Narok East sub-counties. The project works across 28 primary schools reaching 14,782 children and over 3,000 adults including caregivers, teachers and community leaders.

The Need

Many children in Narok County face barriers to quality education including poor school infrastructure, inadequate sanitation, limited health services and child protection gaps. Girls are particularly affected with high dropout rates linked to cultural practices, early marriage and lack of safe school environments.

What We Do

The project works across four key areas – education quality, water sanitation and health, reproductive health and child protection. Activities include training of school management committees, construction of classrooms and latrines, provision of water tanks and handwashing facilities, training of Community Health Volunteers on family planning, sensitization of children on their rights and life skills, and strengthening of community child protection systems.

Who We Serve

The programme serves 14,782 children – 7,105 girls and 7,677 boys – across 28 primary schools in Narok South, Narok North and Narok East sub-counties. It also engages 3,344 adults including 1,400 caregivers, 140 school management committee members, 56 teachers and community health volunteers.

Reach and Impact

The 3K Project has improved education quality across 28 schools, improved water sanitation and health conditions, strengthened reproductive health services at community level and promoted child protection at both school and community level. 24 public participation forums were held and 400 women of reproductive age have accessed maternity services at Ewaso Ngiro Health Centre through the project.

Partners

The 3K Project is implemented in collaboration with the Narok County Children’s Department, Department of Gender and Social Services, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and NACCSNET. The total project budget is 765,000 EUR.
